Learn the Art of Watercolor

Local artist, Dara Tolbert Brooks will provide tips and techniques to help other artists visualize and capture an image or concept. Participants will experiment with a variety of techniques in a hands-on session and will leave with a completed piece.

Brooks has exhibited at Grosse Pointe Art Center, the Anton Art Center, the Padziewski Gallery in Dearborn and the Downriver Council for the Arts in Wyandotte. Currently, she is teaching watercolors at the Providence Park Hospital Assarian Cancer Center as part of their Healing Arts Program.

This watercolor session with Brooks will be at the Shelby Township Library at 9:00 am on Wednesday, March 9th. Pre-registration is required and can be completed online, in person, or over the phone.

Seeking Artists and Vendors for Art Fair!

artfair_logo2The Shelby Township Art Fair Committee is seeking artists and vendors for its 33rd annual juried show to be held on August 13 and 14.

The event will be held outdoors on the Shelby Township Municipal Grounds with the majority of the booths on grass, many with shade trees.  All booths measure approximately 15’ x 15’ with some double booths available.

Four exhibitor categories have been chosen for this event:

  • ART MEDIA: Original, hand-made, one of a kind pieces (with the exception of prints), created and produced by the artist including, but not limited to:

Clay • Digital • Fiber • Glass • Jewelry • Metal • Mixed Media • Painting • Photography • Printmaking • Drawing • Sculpture • Stone • Wood • Multi-Media

  • EMERGING ARTISTS – Artists just starting to exhibit in any of the ART mediums listed above that don’t have enough work for a full booth. Each accepted artist may rent no more than one 6 foot table under the Emerging Artists Tent.
  • CRAFT MEDIA – Items created by the crafter and produced in small quantities including, but not limited to: home décor • clothing and accessories • jewelry that is not one of a kind
  • MICHIGAN MADE MARKET – Items created in batches by Michigan based businesses, including, but not limited to: food items • bath and body products • candles • toys and games • books • pet products

HOW TO APPLY: Applications are available at the Parks, Recreation and Maintenance Department or online at http://shelbyartfair.wix.com/shelbyartfair, on the “Applications” page.  The application deadline is April 1, and jury results will be mailed on or around May 1, 2016. NO resale products, services, home improvement companies, or distributors permitted.
